Before donation pickup, do a 15-minute sweep. Remove the garage-door remote, toll transponder, parking permits, disability placards, insurance card, registration, glovebox documents, and all personal items. Check places where small items slide or stick.
Before the car leaves, factory-reset the infotainment system. Clear Bluetooth pairings, HomeLink, saved addresses, and any saved home address. Leave the vehicle keys and the signed-over title with the car.
Your pre-pickup checklist
Remove security items first
Start with items that can open doors or identify your home. Remove garage-door remotes, gate fobs, building access cards, spare house keys, mailbox keys, storage-unit keys, and valet keys that are not vehicle keys. Check the visor clip, center console, door pockets, cup holders, and any key ring left in the cabin.
Stop billable devices
Pull the toll transponder from the windshield or glovebox before the tow truck arrives. Then log in to the toll account and remove this vehicle from the account, or contact the toll agency if online removal is not available. Remove parking permits, disability placards, garage cards, work permits, and payment hangtags.
Clear glovebox documents
Take out your insurance card, registration, service receipts, inspection papers, warranty packets, repair estimates, owner notes, and any envelope with personal information. Check the glovebox, manual folder, center console, and door pockets. Keep anything you may need for taxes, insurance, or records in your own file, not in the car.
Sweep cabin and trunk
Move front seats forward and back. Look under the seats, between seat cushions, in seat-back pockets, under floor mats, in cup holders, inside visor straps, and around the center console. Open the trunk or hatch. Check cargo nets, side cubbies, tool trays, the spare-tire well, and any hidden storage bins.
Wipe saved vehicle data
Use the vehicle settings menu to factory-reset the infotainment system when possible. Delete Bluetooth pairings, call logs, contacts, saved navigation destinations, garage codes, and HomeLink buttons. Remove any saved home address or frequent destinations. If the screen will not power on, remove phones and connected devices from the car anyway.
Remove optional add-ons
Remove aftermarket items only if they are yours and can come out cleanly. Common examples include dash cams, phone mounts, removable GPS units, upgraded speakers, detachable stereos, seat covers, floor liners, and child seats. Do not strip parts or change the vehicle condition. Leave the car intact and as-described for donation pickup.
Leave transfer items
Put the vehicle keys with the car, including the main key, working fob, and any vehicle-only spare key you plan to provide. Place the signed-over title where the pickup driver can receive it, or follow the handoff instruction you were given. Do not take the keys or signed-over title with you.

Common questions
Do I really leave the keys and title in the car?
Yes. The keys and the signed-over title must stay with the vehicle for the donation handoff. Keep personal papers and records out, but do not remove the transfer items. If you are nervous about where to place the title, keep it with you until the driver is present.
Should I cancel insurance before the car is picked up?
Ask your insurer before canceling coverage. Many donors wait until the vehicle has been handed off and their records are complete, but insurance timing can depend on your policy and situation. Remove the insurance card from the glovebox during your sweep so it does not leave with the vehicle.
What if I forgot something after the tow truck leaves?
Contact Penn Heritage Rides as soon as you notice. Give the vehicle description, pickup address, and the item you are trying to recover. Retrieval is not guaranteed after the vehicle leaves your property, so the 15-minute sweep is the best way to prevent a problem.
Can I remove a dash cam or upgraded stereo?
Yes, if it belongs to you and removing it does not damage the vehicle or change the condition you described. Take removable electronics, mounts, memory cards, and personal accessories. Leave factory equipment, required vehicle parts, and anything needed for the car to roll, steer, load, or be identified.
